Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Mohammad Atiqul Islam on Saturday inspected the ongoing integrated mosquito eradication operation (squash program) in the DNCC’s Bhatara and Satarkul areas. During this time he visited Bhatara 100 feet road, sand field, Dumni area.
During the visit, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said that mosquito infestation has increased as there are many challenges in mosquito control in general. We have a substantial shortage of follow-up. The city corporation also has a shortage of mosquito workers, mosquito supervisors, and caretakers.
“We understand that the mosquito eradication campaign must be modernized,” he said. We need to educate the public. There is a lot of lack of awareness. In addition, we are discussing with entomologists the application of drugs in new ways. Mosquito expeditions will be conducted in a modern and scientific way.
Mayor Atiqul Islam added that the mosquitoes did not appear for a day or two. We think, the way the councilors are working since morning, the way the mosquito workers are working, you see, I’m trying to go everywhere. It’s not like I go to sleep right after going to one. But I am doing it. We continue our efforts. But we are not sitting at home, we are not sitting at the office. I am with everyone in the field all day. There is no doubt that the mosquito extermination process must be changed and expanded reaching the field itself.
