The city of Minneapolis agreed to pay $ 28 million in compensation to the family of black Floyd, who was killed by the police.

A Reuters report said they had reached an agreement on Friday.

Floyd, 46, was kidnapped in May last year by a white cop named Derek Chauvin. Floyd died on the spot.

When a video of the incident spread through social media, the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement became strong around the world.

Benjamin Cramp, a lawyer for the Floyd family, said it was the largest pretrial settlement in a death case in American history.

He added that the compensation indicates that the lives of blacks are also important and that police brutality against people of this color must be stopped. The death of a black man at the hands of the police will no longer be viewed as trivial or insignificant.

Floyd’s sister, Bridget Floyd, expressed her satisfaction at the compensation announcement.

“Our hearts are broken,” he said. It’s comforting to know that George Floyd has shown the world how to live after death. ‘

The trial of Chauvin, who was fired from the police force, began earlier this week in Henepin County District Court. Chauvin has pleaded not guilty. He said he was just doing his job correctly.

Last year, Floyd’s relatives filed a lawsuit against Chauvin and three other police officers in federal court.
