There are four women on the 60-seat list in Assam. A Muslim candidate has remained. BJP State President Ranjit Kumar Das will compete from Patacharkuchi. The names were sealed at the Central Election Committee meeting through talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the other hand, the Assam People’s Council will compete in 26 seats. The BJP did not release former Prime Minister Prafulla Mahanta of Berhampur. It is known that he leaves the team to form a new team. Prafulla Mahanta is believed to be able to join the Congress. His new party can also present candidates for 15 seats. Another ally, the United Liberal People’s Party, will contest seven seats.
A total of 11 BJP MLAs did not receive tickets this time. Some of them are expected to join the opposition. Two former ministers, Gautam Das and Ajanta Niyog, who have recently joined Congress, have been nominated.
The BJP alliance easily came to power in Assam last time. But this time in front of them is a united opposition alliance of six parties. However, they are confident of winning more seats than last time.
Note that Assam will vote in three phases. Voting for the 127-seat assembly will begin on March 26. The results will be announced on May 2.
