Passengers from various destinations have been in dire straits due to the sudden shutdown of buses on Monday afternoon without warning.
Although owners and workers said the action was taken “out of fear of attack,” the BNP’s comment was that it was their “strategy to thwart the demonstration.”
Earlier, bus services on the Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi route stopped abruptly since Monday morning.
BNP’s Rajshahi Divisional Rally will be held on Tuesday. On Monday night, the police allowed them to meet at a community center in the city.
Matiul Haque Tito, general secretary of the Rajshahi Bus Owners Association, said they feared “chaos on the road” and “terrorist attack on vehicles” surrounding the BNP divisional rally in Rajshahi on Tuesday. For this reason, they have stopped the bus service from noon on Monday.
Mahatab Hossain, general secretary of the Rajshahi District Motor Workers Union, said one of his workers had been beaten in Bogra. The previously announced program to demand the arrest of the perpetrators is running. Some buses leave Rajshahi in the morning. However, no bus came from outside.
Meanwhile, ordinary commuters have suffered due to the sudden stop of Rajshahi buses. Many of them return to the counter. In addition, some people leave for their respective destinations in other vehicles as an alternative route. In addition, the Chapainawabganj counters have been kept closed.
Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Chairman Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul said the BNP divisional assembly has been allowed to be in the community center. They requested permission to hold demonstrations at Saheb Bazar Zeropoint, Ganakpara Junction and Sonadighi Junction in the city. But police allowed a demonstration at the community center on Monday night. Work has been done to make the stage at night.
He said: “The government has stopped bus services on all routes in Rajshahi since Monday morning with the help of owners and workers to disrupt the demonstration. This has been done before the assembly. This is because people should not come to the departmental assembly.
The former mayor of Bulbul city also claimed that it was an attempt to sabotage the BNP divisional assembly.
Rajshahi City Police Spokesperson and Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Quddus said BNP had requested permission to hold demonstrations in the busiest areas of the city. But the community center has been allowed to avoid confrontations and provide security for people’s lives and property.
If you don’t see people inside the community center, there is room next door; They will be able to hear the leaders there, Quddus said.
