Allegedly against Sarkozy, he asked a magistrate for information on another criminal case against him, offering him a higher job as a bribe.

Sarkozy was sentenced Monday after bribery charges against a magistrate were proven in court, the BBC reported.

However, Sarkozy will not have to go to jail even if he is sentenced to three years in prison. Because, two years between the three years in prison suspended and the remaining year will stay home after wearing an electronic bracelet.

Sarkozy is the second president in the history of modern France to be convicted of corruption. He served as President of France from 2007 to 2012.

Former French President Jacques Chirac was sentenced in 2011 to two years in prison on corruption charges. He died in 2019.

In Monday’s ruling, the judge said the conservative politician himself knew that “what he did was wrong.”

“His actions and those of his attorneys paint a bad picture of the justice system in people’s minds.”
