In response to a question at a press conference after the expanded meeting, Montu said that the expanded meeting had decided to hold a two-day council on May 28-29 in Dhaka. Councilors will decide whether Kamal Hossain will be retained as president.

Lawyer Subrata Chowdhury told Ittefaq: “10 days ago, Kamal Hossain himself announced an extended meeting on February 26 (yesterday) to unite the party. Even the room of the National Press Club is reserved for the meeting. However, he abruptly interrupted the extended meeting on Thursday due to the malicious advice of three malefactors. That is why we have decided to hold an extended meeting on the scheduled day.

At the extended meeting, a 21-member steering committee was formed to manage organizational activities until the next council. The party’s National Executive Committee was formed with Abu Sayyid as convener and 15 as joint conveners, and a 201-member council preparation committee was formed with Montu as convener and Subrata Chowdhury as members secretary. The extended meeting, chaired by Abu Sayyid, was attended by, among others, former ATM presidium member Jaglul Haider Afrik, former presidium member Jamal Uddin Ahmed and former organizational secretary Helal Uddin.
