Rising gasoline and diesel prices have lifted the spirits of ordinary people in India. And in that atmosphere, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to the streets in an elegant protest. On Thursday morning, the Chief Minister arrived in Navanne from his home in Kalighat on the e-scooter (electric scooter) of Minister of State Firhad Hakim. The photo, which went viral on social media, shows Mamata sitting on the back of a scooter wearing a blue helmet.
Great surprises awaited in the afternoon. Mamata drove the electric scooter herself on her way home from Nabanna in the afternoon. On both sides and in the rear, although the e-scooter was in the hands of the personnel in charge of its security.
Mamata drove the e-scooter from her office to the center of the second Hooghly Bridge. It was later led by Firhad Hakim. Later, the Chief Minister went home and again took the ‘handle’ of the scooter in hand.
Most of the television channels in India show live images of Mamata riding a scooter. It showed that Mamata had difficulty riding the scooter, but the way Mamata was driving the scooter with her unaccustomed hands at the age of 6 surprised almost everyone.
Seeing the Chief Minister advance on a scooter, the crowd gathered on both sides of the road. The traffic stopped. Enthusiastic people start taking pictures with mobile phones. Trinamool leaders have claimed that today’s incident demonstrated that there is no one on Mamata’s side in the protest game.
However, the opposition has ridiculed the Chief Minister’s ‘protest’ when using e-scooters. BJP spokesman Shamik Bhattacharya said Mamata sat on the scooter seat and realized there was no dirt under her feet. “The minds of the people of Bengal will not find themselves in all these dramas before the elections,” he said.
Spokesmen for other parties, including the CPM Congress, also attacked him, saying he was acting before the elections.
Although the opponents have attacked Mamata’s scooter, she refuses to give up. He said there will be more movement starting tomorrow.
