There is no Shaheed Minar in 1308 Sylhet schools

Sylhet: The birthplace of the freedom movement is the language movement. Shaheed Minar is a monument to the martyrs of language.

However, Shaheed Minar was not built in many educational institutions in Sylhet. As a result, the children of Sylhet are deprived of acquainting themselves with the memory of the martyrs of language.

Although there are about 1500 schools in the Sylhet city corporation and district, there are only 193 Shaheed Minar. Most of it is in Kanaighat of Sylhet known as late upazila. There is no Shaheed Minar in any of the district’s Jaintapur and Gowainghat elementary schools. On the other hand, there is no Shaheed Minar in the district’s 1307 schools. Interested parties have confirmed this information.

Meanwhile, concerned officials have presented unconvincing arguments to explain the reason for Shaheed Minar’s absence.
The Shaheed Minar is the center of Bengali excitement. The current government called for the construction of Shaheed Minar in all schools in the country to maintain the memory of the language movement and pay tribute to the martyrs of all languages, including Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Jabbar, Shafiul.

Although there was not enough money, the government instructed the school to motivate local donors to do the work with the money saved from the allocation for repair work. This call was not reflected in the Sylhet region.
Therefore, the Upazila Education Officials are using the excuse of the disinterest of local donors to cover up their failures. Kanaighat upazila from the district is proof that your excuse is just a lame argument. Shaheed Minar has been built in 90 of 130 government elementary schools in this upazila known as the backward area of Sylhet Division.

Shaheed Minar has been found to be present in 19 of the 125 elementary schools in the economically prosperous Sylhet Sadar Upazila. Golapganj, a first-class upazila, has Shaheed Minar in 19 out of 180 government primary schools, 10 out of 150 expatriate-inhabited schools in Beanibazar, 5 out of 72 schools in Balaganj, and 11 out of 110 schools in Osmaninagar.

The most frustrating thing is that there is no Shaheed Minar in any primary school in Goainghat and Jaintapur which is famous for stone quarrying and tourism. In the suburbs of South Surma, there is only one Shaheed Minar in one of 116 schools. Although there are 137 government primary schools in Gowainghat and 62 in Jaintapur, there is no Shaheed Minar.

Furthermore, there are Shaheed Minar in 2 schools in Zakiganj, 9 in Companyganj, 5 in Fenchuganj and 20 in Bishwanath. The total number of schools could not be determined, as many of the officials responsible for the upazilas in question did not receive calls on their mobile phones.

Swapan Kumar Das, Kanaighat upazila primary education official, told banglanews that he has inspired expats and local donors through the school management committee to achieve unimaginable success in building Shaheed Minar, leaving other upazilas behind. inhabited by expatriates. That is why they have come forward. The credit is for local donors and expatriates. ‘

Sylhet’s Golapganj, Beanibazar, Balaganj, Goainghat, South Surma, Osmaninagar and Jaintapur Upazila Primary Education Officials Zahirul Islam, Ruman Mia, Abdur Rakib Bhuiyan, Protul, Abdur Razzak and Md. Abdul Jalil Talukder said: “The people of the villages are not So interested in Shaheed Minar, nor is there any government assignment here. But they claim to be trying. Citing the example of Kanaighat, many of them said: ‘There is nothing wrong with our efforts. ‘

In this regard, Sylhet District Education Officer Bayezid Khan told banglanews: “I have worked in different districts. But he had never seen an image as depressing as Sylhet. The government’s directive was to build the Shaheed Minar in collaboration with the system committee and donors and with money from renovations to educational institutions. But that did not happen in most of the Sylhet schools. However, instructions have been given to build Shaheed Minar in all schools. ‘

It is important to know the history of the language movement of elementary school students, to foster respect for the martyrs from the beginning of their educational life, and to build them as conscientious citizens inspiring patriotism. That is why the government had given instructions to build Shaheed Minar in all schools, but due to the insincerity of those involved, it is not seeing the light of day.
