During the BNP’s protest rally on the Barisal district school grounds demanding a neutral election, chairs were thrown between the two groups. The incident took place during engineer Ishraq Hossain’s speech at Thursday’s rally.
Rezaul Karim, chairman of Barisal Mahanagar Chhatra Dal, and leaders and activists of Rony Group and Humayun Group, the general secretary, were seen sitting in chairs.
When the chair was thrown at the rally, the leaders and activists fled and left the scene. However, party leaders, including Ishraq Hossain, repeatedly called on Taud to calm down. After a while, when the situation normalized, the leaders and activists who had left the compound returned. Naturally, the speakers finish their speech.
Earlier, the police blocked the procession of engineer Ishraq Hossain, who was going to participate in the demonstration.
On February 5, the BNP-nominated mayoral candidates announced a rally at the National Press Club, alleging irregularities and fraud in the corporate elections of 6 cities. Former Barisal City Corporation Mayor and BNP Deputy Secretary General Mojibur Rahman Sarwar announced the rally in the presence of the BNP mayoral candidates.
