Army chief General Aziz Ahmed said about the Al Jazeera report that such propaganda could not ignite the army, its chain of command. The army is committed to defending the constitution of Bangladesh. All members of the armed forces have hatedly rejected such attempts in the past, and still do.
He was answering a question from reporters at the Aviation Basic Course-11 graduation closing ceremony held by Army Aviation Group at Tejgaon in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
Referring to the ISPR protest against the Al Jazeera report, the army chief said: I want to say unequivocally that the army is a highly trained and well-motivated force. Much more integrated than before. Everyone in our chain of command knows it. The Army is loyal to the Government of Bangladesh and is always ready to carry out any order of the current government and we are constitutionally sworn in to deal with any issue, whether internal or external. I don’t think there is anything to worry about.
The Al Jazeera report has several comments about your family, what is your comment on that? And do you become the target? Another thing is the video from the back when you got on the plane and your video of every place you went. When asked if the leaked videos upset the balance of our army, the army chief said: “I ask you, what has been said about my family members? Is there a case against them?” Is there a punishment? But if he was released from that sentence yesterday, if there are no more trials against him, can he be told that he has been convicted? When you are exempt from any charge, you are like any free citizen from the next day. The propaganda about my brothers has been clearly explained and the family will inform you about it at a press conference soon.
But I can tell you, I am fully aware of the image of the Army as Army Chief of Staff, my position, my responsibilities. I am fully aware of what can be done to tarnish the image of the military, what can be done to lessen the responsibility assigned to me. When I met my brother in Malaysia, there was no case to his name. He has already been cleared of a conspiracy case. That leak happened in March, I went in April. Al Jazeera’s statement was completely malicious.
And the second thing is that the image that was captured during my travels through different countries. My safety is officially guaranteed when I am somewhere in an official capacity. When I go to another country, he makes that country. But when I’m on a private visit somewhere, maybe when I get somewhere I’m talking to a relative in transit, I never think it’s appropriate to use any official protocol. In that case, someone may have exploited that weakness for malicious purposes. ‘
The army chief said: ‘I have repeatedly asked why I was attacked. Do you understand, find out why the head of the Bangladesh army is being attacked? Because this army chief has been appointed by the honorable prime minister. Humiliating the army chief means humiliating the honorable Prime Minister.
He said: “I am fully aware that my institution, my organization, the Bangladesh army and our government should not feel ashamed or disputed in any way because of me.” There is no evidence of what you are hearing, they have inserted other things, including cut pieces from different places. But this will not achieve its goal.
When asked if any action would be taken against those involved in the affair in Bangladesh, the army chief said: “There may be some problems where the army will not have to do anything.” I’m sure the ministry in question or any other agency can take action.
ISPR protest letter: An ISPR protest letter on Monday night stated that the Al Jazeera report clearly shows that the Bangladeshi government and the Bangladesh army as a whole are disproportionate, unacceptable and fabricated with some isolated incidents to discredit, accept and humiliate the people of Bangladesh and the world. The report has been prepared by attaching unsubstantiated information. The documentary reveals false information about the army’s purchase of spyware from Israel and the direct and indirect involvement of the army chief’s brother in various army procurement processes.
On December 29, 2016, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) asked Bangladesh for the first time if it could deploy a “signal intelligence unit” in the Democratic Republic of the Congo instead of a signal unit. In addition, the UN sent a list of necessary personnel and equipment to the unit. According to the list, some equipment for the Signal Intelligence Unit was not available in the military at the time, so it was necessary to import it from abroad. The army informed the UN on January 5, 2017 that the signal intelligence unit could be dispatched after September 2016. Following the proper public procurement process, the process of purchasing a passive signal interceptor from Hungary started in December 2016, which was completed in June 2016. Although the equipment was procured in accordance with UN requirements, the UN subsequently deployed a signals intelligence unit to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Tanzania, leaving the equipment unused with the Bangladesh Army and ready to be dispatched as soon as possible in the future. The information provided by Al Jazeera that the signaling device was manufactured in Israel is not true at all and the device does not have the name of Israel written on it anywhere.
“The signaling process began long before the current head of the army, General Aziz Ahmed, took office. Starting in 2016, the General Directorate of Defense Procurement (DGPD) signed an agreement with the supplier on June 28. 2017. Therefore, the attempt to establish a link between the current army chief or his brother residing in Hungary with the purchase of this signaling equipment is completely malicious.
No brother or family member of the army chief has been involved in supplying or buying arms, ammunition or equipment in the Bangladesh army.
On March 29, 2019, in the presence of dignitaries at the wedding reception of the son of the Chief of the Army General Staff, the letter of protest read: “Before that, the brothers of the Army Chief of Staff (Anis and Hassan) have been prosecuted for political retaliation, conspiracy, conspiracy and fabrication. ” After the official visit to Singapore in April 2019, the Chief of the Army went to Malaysia on a private visit and stayed at the home of his older brother. The army chief’s wedding to his expatriate brother and their reunion in Malaysia were presented as a meeting with a fugitive at Al Jazeera, which is shameless propaganda.
ISPR says the man named Sami in the Al Jazeera report now lives in Hungary under a false identity, using a “false” name of Colonel Wasit Khan. On May 5, a case was filed against him at the Ramna Model Police Station on charges of anti-state propaganda, which is currently under investigation.
