A strong earthquake shook many parts of northern India, including Delhi. The earthquake was felt in parts of northern India around 10:30 pm local time on Friday. Its magnitude was 6.3 on the Richter scale. However, so far no casualties have been reported.
The earthquake struck at 10:34 p.m. Friday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). It lasted a few seconds.
According to ACS, the epicenter was reported in Tajikistan. However, the epicenter was reported 21 km from Amritsar in Punjab. The NCS initially said the source was about 10 km deep in the ground in the area. At the same time, the earthquake’s magnitude was initially said to be 7.1 on the Richter scale, but later that information was corrected to say the magnitude was 7.3.
The earthquake shook the capital, Delhi, and its surroundings for some time. The panicky Delhiites took to the streets from their homes. The same pattern is seen in many northern Indian states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on Friday night after the earthquake. He wrote: “An earthquake has been felt in Delhi. I pray for everyone’s safety.
