Strong earthquake shakes Tajikistan, shakes India

A strong earthquake shook Tajikistan. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.3 on the Richter scale. The earthquake also shook all of northern India, including Punjab, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir. The tremors were also felt in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar in Pakistan. The news was reported citing Times of India and NDTV.

The earthquake occurred at 10:34 pm on Friday (February 12). Its depth from the ground was 91.6 km. The place of origin is located 35 km west of the city of Murgab in Tajikistan.

Earlier, NDTV initially reported that a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Amritsar in Punjab. The tremor was also felt from the capital Delhi.

According to the National Geological Survey of India, the epicenter was 21 km from Amritsar in Punjab.

People left their houses immediately after the earthquake. The tremors were felt for a few seconds from different areas, including Delhi. The same pattern is seen in many northern Indian states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu, and Kashmir. However, so far no casualties have been reported.
