India has facilitated the transit of fertilizers from Bangladesh to Nepal. To facilitate Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) connectivity and sub-regional cooperation, India facilitates this transit through Rahanpur in the Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh and Singabad in India. India’s High Commission in Dhaka said in a statement on Monday.

Under an agreement signed between Bangladesh and Nepal in 1976, goods were exported from Bangladesh to Nepal and goods imported from other countries were transported through Indian territory as “Transit Traffic”. India has been providing transit facilities to Bangladesh, especially for export and land trade with Nepal. By rail, ‘Transit Traffic’ is mainly transported through two Indo-Bangladesh crossing points, Rahanpur (Bangladesh) -Singabad (India) and Biral (Bangladesh) -Radhikapur (India).

A significant amount of fertilizers imported from Bangladesh are shipped to Nepal each year. On February 3 this year, the Bangladesh Railway delivered the first train carrying goods to Nepal to Indian Railways. Approximately 26,000 metric tons of fertilizers will be exported to Nepal using existing rail transit.

It is known that there are plans to export another 25,000 metric tons of fertilizer to Nepal in the coming days. These measures will strengthen regional cooperation and contribute to the economic development of the countries concerned.
