Police arrested Farzana Zaman Neha, the girlfriend of a private university student who was killed after drinking alcohol at a party at a restaurant in Uttara, the capital. Neha arrested has presented the incident of that day in court.
Neha, the murdered student’s girlfriend, was brought before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court on Friday (February 5). He told the court that after drinking alcohol in the restaurant that day, blood and vomit came out of my mouth. Then from there I went home. Subsequently there is no treatment in the hospital.
“On January 26, I went to a bamboo costume restaurant in Uttara at the invitation of my friend Arafat,” he said. I went there and saw some more. I did not recognize anyone but Arafat. I drink alcohol there. After drinking 3 pegs, blood came out of my mouth and I also vomited. Then I went home from there. Even after going home, I threw up a few times. In such a situation, I am not treated in the hospital.
On Friday (February 5), the investigating officer requested a 7-day pre-trial detention for a proper investigation of the case. Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder granted him a five-day pre-trial detention. Previously, Neha was arrested at a home in the Azimpur area of the capital on Thursday night (February 4). He is the defendant in the case brought by the father of the student who lost his life.
Earlier on Thursday, Arafat’s friend Shafayat Jamil, 22, surrendered in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesse as an unidentified Ezhar defendant. Shafayat expressed his desire to participate in the case with an affidavit in court. The judge later rejected his request for bail and ordered that he be sent to jail.
According to the girl’s father’s file, Mortuza Raihan took the girl to Arafat’s home from Mirpur at 4 p.m. on January 26. Leaving the scooter there, Arafat, the young woman, and Raihan went to a bamboo suit restaurant in Sector 3, Uttara. Another accused Neha and a classmate were already present there. There, the defendant forced the girl to drink ‘excessive amounts’.
When the young woman became ill from a drinking stage, Raihan took her to the home of the young woman’s friend Nuhat Alam Tafsir in Mohammadpur. There, Raihan had sex with the girl more than once.
At one point in the night, when the young woman became ill and vomited, Raihan called another friend, Asim Khan. The friend came the next day and admitted the girl first to Ibn Sina and then to Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital. He died after 2 days of life support.
On the same day, the father of the murdered girl filed a lawsuit against 4 people at the Mohammadpur Police Station. One more unidentified person was charged in the case. On January 31, the court granted Mortuza Raihan Chowdhury and Nuhat Alam Tafsir five days of preventive detention. So far, 3 people have been arrested and in preventive custody in this incident. The coroner said there were no signs of injuries on the deceased student’s body. So it looks like he died of adulterated alcohol poisoning.
