Modi’s visit to Dhaka: talks between Bangladesh and India to finalize the program

The two sides discussed the details of their visit to Dhaka at a meeting of the foreign secretaries of the two countries in New Delhi on Friday.

According to a press release issued by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka in March 2021 and fixing the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Sringla co-chaired the Foreign Relations Consultation (FOC) meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed progress in various areas of bilateral cooperation. Cooperation, trade, communication, partnerships for development, power, energy and water resources, regional and multilateral cooperation, as well as border management and cooperation on security and defense were discussed.

The two sides highlighted the importance of the rapid implementation of India’s Loan Agreement (LOC) for bilateral development cooperation, according to the press release. Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the launch of the High Level Development Partnership Mechanism through the first meeting and emphasized on increasing the use of funds and speeding up the approval process.
