Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Samshur-Dauja Nayan has confirmed that more than eight hundred and fifty Rohingya have left for Chittagong in phase three (part one) to Bhasanchar in Noakhali. He told Prothom Alo that at least 3,000 Rohingya had been prepared to be sent to Bhasanchar in two days (Thursday and Friday).

On December 4 and 29 of last year, 3,447 Rohingya were relocated to Bhasanchar in two phases. Of these, 601 are men, 98 are women and 1,656 are children. Earlier, in May last year, the government brought 307 Rohingya back to Bhasanchar after failing to enter Malaysia illegally by sea.

Abdul Quader, 50, a resident of the Tanjimarkhola Rohingya camp in Ukhia, said that more than 150 men, women and children went to the Ukhia College grounds from their camp to Bhasanchar this morning. Rohingya from Cox’s Bazar are showing interest in going there after learning about the accommodation facilities in Bhasanchar.

In this regard, said the representative of the Commissioner for Refugee Aid and Repatriation, officer of the Ukhia Kutupalong Camp-2 East Rohingya camp (in charge). Rashedul Islam said that more than 600 Rohingya from his camp have voluntarily completed preparations to move to Bhasanchar.

By the way, more than seven and a half lakhs of Rohingya took refuge in Bangladesh after crossing the border on August 25, 2016 in the face of killings and torture at the hands of the Myanmar army. Currently, the number of Rohingya in Bangladesh is more than 10 lakh. Two years ago, the government planned to move at least one lakh of Rohingya to Bhasanchar in the Meghna estuary near Hatiyar in Noakhali to ease pressure on Rohingya shelters.
