Twenty-seven expatriates who arrived in the country on a flight from the UK have been diagnosed with coronavirus. After returning to the country, they were quarantined and tested positive for corona. They have been admitted to the government-run hospital.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) BM Ashraf Ullah Taher said this on Monday evening.
It emerged that on January 21, 157 expatriates arrived in the country from London, UK, on Biman flight number BG-202 from Bangladesh. After arriving at Osmani International Airport, they were kept in several hotels in institutional quarantine under the supervision of the army and the police in the presence of the executive magistrate.
Based on the rules above, they are supposed to be quarantined for 4 days. But before that, they must be tested negative in the corona test.
As such, the samples were collected and analyzed last Sunday to release them from institutional quarantine on Monday. In this, 26 people were identified as corona positive.
Of these passengers, 15 were staying at the Nurjahan Hotel, 5 at the Britannia Hotel, 4 at the Holigate Hotel, 3 at the La Rose Hotel and 1 at the Holy Side Hotel.
BM Ashraf Ullah Taher said the passengers tested positive for coronavirus and were admitted to a 31-bed hospital in Khadimpara, Sylhet. His physical condition is being monitored.
Meanwhile, another 143 Silhetites returned home from the UK on the day of the bad news. They were quarantined after arriving at Osmani airport on Monday afternoon.
