The president of the Union Council (UP), Md. Rashedul Sheikh, was accused of torturing a young man in a medieval manner in a rural arbitration in Saurail Union of Kalukhali Upazila of Rajbari. The police arrested Shahidul Islam Ali and one of his associates.

Rashedul was brutally tortured on Sunday night (January 24). Later, the young man’s father, Iman Ali Sheikh, filed a case at the Kalukhali Police Station. Kalukhali police arrested the UP president in the case overnight.

Defendant Md. Shahidul Islam Ali Sawrail is the president of the Union Awami League and president of the Union Parishad. The name of the arrested accomplice is Raihan.

According to locals and police sources, on Sunday afternoon on the grounds of Char Paturia High School, the president of the Shawrail Union Parishad. An arbitration was organized in a village under the leadership of Shahidul Islam Ali. Rashedul was publicly slapped with 100 shoes and fined in connection with an incident involving a woman. Later, the UP president got angry and tied a brick to the young man’s penis and carried him around the school grounds. When the young man began to bleed from his penis, a village doctor gave him first aid.

Later, Rashedul was locked in his own home and threatened to cover up the incident. The president is protected by his own people so that he cannot go out for treatment. At that point someone called 999 and informed the police. Later, the Kalukhali police rescued the victim and admitted her to Pangsha Hospital.

Many people are known to have been tortured by the president before.

Kalukhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Masudur Rahman said Rashedul was rescued and admitted to hospital after receiving information on number 999 from the National Emergency Service. Two people, including the president of Sawrail Union Parishad, Shahidul Islam Ali, have been arrested in connection with the case.
