Five policemen were attacked in Pirojpur while trying to arrest the accused. The incident took place in the Sikdarbari area of the Kumarkhali mahalla of Pirojpur Township around 2 am on Sunday. Seven people have been arrested accused of assaulting the police.
The injured police officers are Pirojpur Sadar Police Deputy Inspector (SI) Saikat Hossain, SI Mahamudul Hasan, Deputy Deputy Inspector (ASI). Khairul Hasan, Saiful Islam and Sheriff Maruf Hossain. Nurul Islam, the police officer in charge of Pirojpur Sadar, said the case was being prosecuted and that efforts were being made to arrest those involved.
According to police sources, a closed circuit (CC) camera was recently stolen from the Civil Surgeon’s Office in Pirojpur. A team from the Pirojpur Sadar Police Station went to arrest Hasan Sikder, son of Anwar Sikder of Kumarkhali Mahalla, last night as a suspect in the robbery. After Hasan Sikder’s arrest, the accused and the criminals attacked the police to kidnap Hasan Sikder. Five members of the police were injured. ASI injured said. Khairul Hasan and Officer Maruf Hossain have been admitted to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital. The other three injured police officers received first aid.
