The US military’s Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement that the warships entered the South China Sea as part of regular operations led by the warship USS Theodore Roosevelt. The mission is to ensure safety at sea through free navigation and association. The statement said the fleet, led by USS Theodore Roosevelt, included the missile-capable USS Bunker Hill, USS Russell and USS John Finn.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that Taiwan had complained that eight Chinese bombers and four fighter jets had entered the region’s airspace on Saturday. The incident took place in southwestern Taiwan.

China claims Taiwan as its territory. In recent times, Chinese planes have been sailing around the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Island, off the coast of the South China Sea and the southern part of Taiwan. However, authorities in the region said the planes that crashed into Taiwanese airspace on Saturday were cause for concern. They say that China’s H-8K bombers are capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

Taiwan’s defense ministry says its air force has warned and recalled the Chinese planes. In addition, the air defense missile system has been activated to understand the purpose of the aircraft.
