Ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Banglabazar-Shimulia routes has been suspended to avoid accidents due to thick fog. According to BIDWTC authorities, the ferry service on these routes was suspended on Sunday (January 24) at 9:15 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. respectively.
At that time, several ferries were stranded in the middle of the river carrying vehicles and passengers. Apart from this, due to the closure of ferry services, vehicle noise is getting louder in ports and drivers and passengers are suffering in the harsh winter.
In this regard, Mahbub Hossain, deputy branch manager of BIWTC Daulatdia Ghat, said: At 11:45 p.m., the river path became blurred in the mist. The ferry service on the Daulatdia-Paturia route was suspended to avoid an accident. As the density of the fog subsides, ferry services will resume on this route. There are some vehicles in Syria as the ferry service is closed. If the movement of the ferry becomes normal, the pressure of these vehicles will decrease rapidly. Currently 16 ferries, large and small, are sailing this route.
Meanwhile, due to thick fog, the ferry service on the Bangladesh-Shimulia route was suspended from 9:15 p.m. This information has been made known to sources at BIWTC’s Banglabazar Ghat.
