Former Bangladesh Bank Governor and East West University Senior Adviser Mohammad Farasuddin recommended permanent cancellation of the JSC and PEC exams.
He made the recommendation at a discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO in the capital on Sunday (January 24) on the occasion of International Education Day.
Farasuddin said: “I want to say one thing, I don’t know if the government will like this word.” It is said that there are complaints about the fifth and eighth class public examinations. I think those who run the country, set the policy, who speak in front of them, may or may not reveal the truth. Parents and students feel very powerless in this way.
He said those who intend to read privately and post note guides are happy. Therefore, it would be highly recommended that these two tests not be done this time due to this Kavid-19. Consideration should be given to whether or not it can be permanently removed.
As the main guest at the discussion meeting, the Minister of Education said that there are different views on the PEC and JSC exams. Most people say they don’t want the particular primary test. These are being discussed in various places. We do not have a decision on this at the moment. Even then we are thinking about this.
The discussion meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mahbub Hossain, Secretary of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education. Deputy Minister of Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secretary for Technical Education and Madrasa Aminul Islam Khan, Secretary for Primary and Mass Education Hasibul Alam, and UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh Beatrice Caldun also spoke at the meeting.
