Four members of a family, including three disabled people, died in a fire in Rupganj of Narayanganj. The incident took place in the Kumartek area of Sector 11 of the Purbachal suburb on Friday night. The deceased were identified as Masum Mia, 40, from the Purbachal area, his disabled wife Seema Begum, 32, and two disabled sons Russell, 18, and Rahmat Ullah, 10.
Purbachal Fire Station Officer Uddipan Bhakta said Dhaka Electric Supply Company’s (DESCO) high-voltage cable broke and fell onto a rural power line around 8:30 p.m. As a result, the rural electricity tear fell on the tin rice at Masum Mia’s house.
As a result, the house caught fire immediately after being electrified. Masum Mia and her two disabled children were burned inside the house and died on the spot. Seema Begum, Masum Miah’s wife, was severely burned. He was rescued and taken to the Rupganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced him dead.
He said that since Masum’s home was close to the Purbachal fire station, firefighters arrived at the scene in no time and brought the fire under control.
Rupganj OC Mohsinul Qadir Police Station said the power line fell on the tin rice house and caught fire, killing four members of the same family. The bodies have been sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
