Rahmanullah Gurbaj, the starter for Afghanistan, has marked a century of assault in his ODI debut. Marquette’s batsman scored three figures in the series opener against Ireland at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Dubai on Thursday.

Afghanistan won the toss and chose to hit in the first game of the three-game series on Thursday. Gurbaj and Jabed Ahmadi gave the team a great start. Batting in 22 overs, the duo averaged 120 runs. Jabed returned to the locker room with 36 runs but Gurbaj picked up a great century. He entered the century with 115 balls.

After a century, 19-year-old Gurbaj increasingly became a Marquette. The right-hander scored 26 more runs in the last 12 balls. In the end, he returned to the locker room with 127 runs of 127 balls.

At the time of writing, Afghanistan’s score was 205 out of 6 in 40 overs. Najibullah Zadran 11 and Azmatullah Omarzai are hitting for zero runs.

Although he made his ODI debut today, he is not a newcomer to international cricket. He has already played 10 international Twenty20s with Afghanistan and also against Bangladesh. So far, he has scored 332 runs with a 141 hit rate in 10 Twenty20 internationals.
