Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Joe Biden on assuming the presidency of the United States. But he said he was disappointed to see President Biden sign an executive order revoking the approval of the Keystone pipeline.

Canada’s prime minister said in a statement that Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States earlier that day. While we welcome the president’s commitment to fighting climate change, we are disappointed.

Trudeau added that he had spoken directly with Biden about the project last November. And Ambassador Hillman and other officials in our administration have raised him to the level of high-ranking officials in the next American administration.

The pipeline was built to supply an additional 630,000 barrels of bitumen from Canada’s Alberta oil fields to US refineries. When the Obama administration came to power, it revoked the approval of this pipeline. It was subsequently approved by Donald Trump in 2019. Some 200 kilometers of pipes have already been installed and pumping completed in Alberta and several states in the United States.

The Canadian ambassador to the United States has been in talks with the US administration and Joe Biden’s campaign team for the past month. But in the end the result is zero. Justin, meanwhile, embarrassed the government by backing Biden, Canada’s top opposition leader and Alberta’s prime minister.
