A team led by Golam Saqlain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gulshan Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, raided the Rupganj area in Narayanganj on Tuesday night and arrested them.
The detainees are Sajal, Musa, Bachchu, Sajib, Munna and Siddique. A pickup truck, household weapons, 7,000 rupees and a mobile phone were recovered.
Additional Police Commissioner AKM Hafeez Akhter said at a press conference at the Police Detective Office in Dhaka on Wednesday that two businessmen, Apan Mia and Nazrul Islam, were waiting for a vehicle on the east side of the pedestrian bridge in Kawla to go to Karwaran Bazar from Dakshin Khan on December 27.
“At that time, unidentified thieves arrived in a van and took them to their car as passengers to go to Karwaran Bazaar. As soon as they got into the truck, the thieves snatched their money and mobile phones and removed them from the moving vehicle. Apan Mia died in that incident. ”
Hafiz Akhter said the six arrested were members of the gang. From Abdullahpur to Karwaran Bazar, from Rampura to Jatrabari, from Jatrabari to the Bhulta Gauchia area, they used to rob with vans.
“There were 3 people sitting in the front seat of the truck, the rest were in the back of the truck dressed as passengers. In the areas where the wholesale fish, fruit and vegetable warehouses are located, the merchants who go to buy products are selected and collected as pick-up passengers. “
According to the press conference of the detective police, citing the information provided by the detainees during preliminary interrogation, a man named Musa and Rafiq (who could not be captured) stabbed them with a knife in the chest after lifting Mia and Nazrul Islam in a van. Then Sajal, who was sitting in front of the van, returned and snatched the money and mobile phone from the two of them. Then he pushed them out of the truck.
The additional deputy police commissioner, Golam Saqlain, said that a case of robbery and murder was registered against detainees Sajal, Musa, Bachchu and Sajib at the airport police station and a regular case (of robbery) was registered against everyone involved in same police station. Attempts are also being made to arrest the fugitive Rafiq.
