Dhaka: This time, Bangabandhu Satellite-2 will carry the Bangladeshi flag in space.
The process of launching Bangladesh’s second artificial satellite into space began on Tuesday (January 19) with an agreement with a consulting company.
The Post and Telecommunications Department said in a press release that the agreement was signed on Tuesday with the French company PricewaterhouseCoopers to determine its type and nature as part of the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-2. Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and advisor to Dr. PricewaterhouseCoopers. Luigi Scaria signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations.
The agreement was signed at an online event at the head office of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL). The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mustafa Jabbar, was the main guest on the occasion.
The president of BSCL was present among others. Shahjahan Mahmud, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications. Afzal Hossain, Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Shyam Sundar Sikder, and BSCL Board Member Dr. SM Jahangir Alam.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-2 after ‘Bangabandhu Satellite-1’ in space officially started with this agreement.
According to the 2018 Election Manifesto, it has been announced that it will start operations in 2023. With the launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1, Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in broadcasting and satellite communications.
