In the case of the murder of the winning councilor and the attack on the forces of order in Gaibandha, the top secretary of the Electoral Commission (EC). Alamgir said, the forces of evil do these things to tarnish the image of the election.
The secretary said this in response to a question from reporters at the elections building on Sunday. He stated that the choice was fair.
It is worth mentioning that Tariqul Islam, a privately elected candidate for councilor with the grenade symbol, was killed in District 8 of Sirajganj Municipality on Saturday. Law enforcement officers clashed with the agitated crowd at the Government Primary School Center in East Komronai of Gaibandha Municipality. A law enforcement vehicle caught fire and the magistrate’s vehicle was vandalized.
Regarding these incidents, the superior secretary of the EC said that according to the code of conduct, the victory procession cannot be drawn. The procession was not good. And the killers have committed heinous crimes. None of this is desirable. The incident is being investigated. When the report comes in, it can be said what caused this incident. Law enforcement agencies have been asked to strictly control the post-election victory procession.
Asked who was responsible for the murder of the councilor, the secretary said that those who took the procession did not do so in front of the forces of order. If I go around the place where the robbery occurred at 1am without informing law enforcement, then the robbery will take place. What will law enforcement do here?
He said that the responsibility for security rests with the citizens themselves. The first responsibility is yours. If you feel apprehensive, you should inform law enforcement. If they do nothing, they can be blamed.
The EC secretary said there was also competition among family members in voting. It is not possible to provide house-to-house security. But if someone wants, they will be given security. We have to renounce the mentality of violence by accepting defeat.
