At least 30 people, including three policemen, were injured in a standoff over the rental of Tk 10 in Habiganj’s Lakhai upazila. The incident took place in the Shibpur village of upazila on Sunday noon. Later, the police came to the scene and controlled the situation by firing 31 rubber bullets. Five people have been arrested in the incident.

According to police and local sources, a man named Israfil rented a battery-powered autorickshaw from Ainartuk in the upazila to the town of Shibpur this afternoon. After going to the destination, he paid 40 rupees. At that time, autorickshaw driver Oli Ahmed demanded 10 more rupees from the passenger. There was a fight between the two about this. At one point, the relatives of the two sides were involved in a confrontation with sticks. 30 people, including 3 policemen, were injured.

Lakhai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (CO) Saidul Islam said 13 of the injured were treated at the 250-bed district Sadar Hospital in Habiganj. The rest received first aid at the Lakhai Upazila Health Complex. Five people have been arrested in the incident. Three policemen were injured in the attack. A case is being prepared in this regard.
