The State Department has vigorously protested the statements of the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, about the presence of Al Qaeda in Bangladesh.

A press release issued by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday night (January 13) said that the Bangladeshi government had drawn attention to a recent comment made by Pompeo. Pompeo also said that the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in Bangladesh has carried out subversive activities and mistakenly believes that such activities could also happen in the future. Such irresponsible comments from a leading leader are very sad and unacceptable.

Pompeo also said this in a speech at the Washington Press Club on January 12.

The statement read: “Bangladesh strongly rejects such false and baseless statements. There is no evidence of Al Qaeda’s position in Bangladesh.

The statement further said: “If such statements are presented with evidence, the Government of Bangladesh will gladly take the necessary preventive measures.” However, if this comment is based on an idea, it will be very sad. Especially when the relationship between the two countries grows on the basis of values, peace and goals applicable to both.

“Bangladesh has zero tolerance towards terrorism and extremism and all initiatives and measures have been taken to prevent it. The government believes that the statement by the US Secretary of State that al-Qaeda is active in Bangladesh is unfounded and there is no evidence to support it.
