In a few weeks, India will be able to make a decision on the export of the corona virus vaccine, Foreign Minister S Jayashankar said.
He made the remarks while speaking to an international outlet on Tuesday (January 12).
S Jayashankar said that Delhi understood the concerns of foreign governments about supplying vaccines to the people. But India needs to balance the needs of its own people. We have our own challenges.
“Several countries are contacting us,” he said. We tell you, this is the first month, the vaccine is going into production now. Work is underway to store a certain amount of vaccine. In addition, four more clinical trials are underway in India. Among them is Russia’s Sputnik Five.
The vaccination program in India is scheduled to start from January 18 with priority for healthcare and frontline workers. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said 300 million people would be vaccinated in the first phase.
Last week, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro wrote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speed up shipments of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines produced at the Serum Institute. Meanwhile, Bangladesh has expressed hope to receive the vaccine on January 25.
