To that end, the cabinet agreed on Monday to amend the law to publish the results “without examination in special circumstances.”
A virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday gave policy and final approval to the drafts of the ‘Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1971 (Amendment) Ordinance 2020’, ‘Act of the Board of Technical Education of Bangladesh, 2018 ‘and Bangladesh Madrasah Board of Education Act, 2020.
Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam later said in a briefing at the secretariat that a proposal was made in the cabinet on whether the results of the HSC and equivalent examinations could be released by issuing the ordinance from next Wednesday to Saturday. .
“There is a provision in the law, you have to give the test result. Since the test could not be performed this time, the Department of Secondary and Higher Education proposed to issue an ordinance to deliver the results within 8 to 10 days.
“Parliament will meet in just six days, so the cabinet has decided that it will be passed as an amended law, not an ordinance, so that results can be delivered before January 28.”
13 lakh 75 thousand 69 students from 11 boards of education were supposed to take HSC and equivalent exams this time. The test was supposed to start on April 1.
But when the coronavirus outbreak began to escalate, all educational institutions in the country were closed as of March 16.
After a long wait by students and parents, Education Minister Dipu Moni told a press conference on October 8 that the HSC exams will not be taken this time as the fifth and eighth finals.
On that day, he said, this year’s HSC results will be determined by averaging the results of the eighth final and the SSC. The JSC-JDC results will be reported as 25 percent and the CSS result will be reported as 75 percent.
Later, in late December, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that since the exams could not be taken, they were trying to find out if the HSC results could be published early in the new year by amending the law and issuing a ordinance.
