One person was killed in a two-way shootout at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf

Nur Hakim, 26, was killed in a shootout between two groups of Rohingya in the Teknaf and Ukhia Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. At least 12 to 15 people were injured. The victims are all Rohingya. The incident took place at Rohingya camps Chakmarkul No. 21 and Unchiprang No. 22 in Teknaf upazila around 4.15pm on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Hossain Ali, a resident of Chakmarkul No. 21 Rohingya Shibir C Block No. 419 of the Huaikeng Union of Teknaf.

Cox’s Bazar 18 Armored Police Battalion (APBN) Police Superintendent Commander Mohammad Tariqul Islam Tariq confirmed the information at first glance. He said that an armed group of 120-130 people from the Hakim Para and Jamtali Rohingya camps in Ukhia went to the Chakmarkul and Unchiprang Rohingya camps in Teknaf around 1.30pm last night. At around 4.45pm, they exchanged gunfire with Toha forces from the Chakmarkul Rohingya camp. Young Rohingya Nur Hakim died. 12-15 injured Rohingya are being rescued and treated at various NGO-run health centers.

According to APBN, the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Additional police patrols in the Rohingya camp have been intensified under the surveillance of various intelligence agencies. The case is pending.
