Police have recovered the decomposed body of a 10th-class schoolgirl from the septic tank of her boyfriend’s home 11 months after her disappearance in Dasar, Madaripur. The incident took place around 8pm on Saturday (January 9) in the East Botla village of Dasar Police Station.

According to the case and police sources, Sahabuddin Akon, son of Majid Akan from the same village, fell in love with Murshida Akter, a tenth-year student from Chanmia Hawladar in the village of East Botla. According to that source, Sahabuddin took Murshid from his home in February last year for treatment. Then Murshid disappeared. On February 18, the Murshid family filed a General Diary (GD) at the Dasar Police Station. Later, on March 4, Murshidar’s mother, Mahinur Begum, brought a case against five people, including Sahabuddin, at the Dasar police station.

According to family sources, the plaintiffs requested the transfer of the case to the PBI since there was no progress in the case for a long time. On December 16 last year, the Madaripur detective police took over the investigation. Then, on December 30, the defendant Sahabuddin Akon went to court to obtain bail and the defendant was sent to jail.

The investigating officer on the case, police detective SI Tariqul Islam, requested a 10-day pre-trial detention to question the defendant Sahabuddin. The court granted a two-day preventive detention. On Saturday (January 9) afternoon, Sahabuddin confessed to the murder and the disappearance of the body. According to him, the police recovered Murshid’s decomposed body from the septic tank at Sahabuddin’s home at night.

Tipu Sultan, the murdered schoolgirl’s uncle, said: “Sahabuddin took my niece in February last year. After disappearing for a long time, the police did not cooperate when they went to present a case at the police station. Although the case was taken up later, the defendant was not arrested. The clue was recovered after the detective police took over the investigation.

Chowdhury Rezaul Karim, Police Officer in Charge of Madaripur DB District, said: “The defendant surrendered to court and requested bail. The court did not grant him bail. He was later placed in pretrial detention for questioning and pleaded guilty to murder. We have recovered the body with your information. However, all the details of the murder are not yet known.
