A court has sentenced two people to death for raping and killing Rabia Akhter Riya, a 7-year-old girl in Madaripur. Judge Mosammat Dilruba Sultana of the Madaripur Court for the Suppression of the Abuse of Women and Children delivered the verdict at around 12 noon on Monday. The boy’s family has expressed their satisfaction with the verdict handed down after 8 years.
The deceased have been identified as Mahmudul Hasan alias Madhu, 32, son of Nuru Mollah from Srinadi village in Kotbari of Madaripur Sadar upazila and Milon Mollah, 30, son of Jalal Mollah. They have been fined one lakh of rupees. Two defendants were present in court when the verdict was announced.
According to the details of the case and police sources in the court, Rabia was a second-rate student. On the afternoon of November 26, 2012, on the way home from training, some malefactors took him into the forest and raped and killed him. The following day, Rabia’s father, Gauss Napti, filed a lawsuit against the unidentified persons at the Madaripur Sadar police station. The then Deputy Inspector (SI) of the Sadar Police Station, Fayekuzzaman, secured the involvement of Mahmudul and Milon Mollah in the case. A charge sheet was filed against them in court on February 3, 2013.
Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, Rabia’s mother, Taslima Begum, told Prothom Alo that they had been given the appropriate punishment. He’s happy with the court’s verdict. He demanded the speedy execution of the verdict.
