The court ordered the pre-trial detention of Prashant Kumar Haldar (PK Haldar), former Managing Director of NRB Global Bank, in a case of illegal acquisition of assets worth Tk 265 crore. The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul granted him a three-day pretrial detention on Monday.

Earlier, the ACC arrested a snail trader from the Segundobagicha area of ​​the capital around 12:30 pm on Monday. He then requested a three-day pre-trial detention and was presented to the court by the investigating officer of the case, the ACC deputy director. Saladin

According to the request for pre-trial detention, PK Haldar has acquired more assets at home and abroad in the name of his close relative Shankha Bepari with ill-gotten gains. PK Haldar is a fugitive abroad. Snail traders also tried to flee abroad. Preliminary information is available that PK Haldar has laundered money by concealing, transferring and converting its illegally acquired money from conch merchants.

Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir requested a three-day pre-trial detention in court on behalf of the ACC. However, there was no lawyer for the accused. After the hearing, the court granted Shankha Bepari a preventive detention of three days.

PK Haldar was the managing director of the ILFSL listed on the capital market. PK Haldar fled abroad earlier this year due to complaints from customers. On January 8 last year, Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury, deputy director of the commission, filed a case against him in ACC Integrated District 1 office on charges of illegal assets worth Tk 264.91 crore.

Meanwhile, the commission, with the help of Interpol through the Interior Ministry, requested to bring PK Haldar back to the country. The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) wants documents on all the cases brought against PK Haldar in response to the request.

In the case, on December 29, the court ordered the confiscation of PK Haldar’s real estate, including two flats in Dhanmondi. Earlier, on December 2, the same court had issued an arrest warrant for PK Haldar through Interpol.
