The militant group Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack on a coal mine in the Balochistan province of West Pakistan that killed 11 people. This information has been known by the news of the American news agency AP. The militants kidnapped the workers on Saturday and killed them near a coal mine.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the attack as “inhumane terrorist activity”.

The attacker struck shortly after noon in front of a rally in the provincial capital, Quetta, near the Afghan border. The victims are members of the minority Shiite community. Extremists have repeatedly attacked the Hazaras because they follow Shiite Islam.

Armed militants kidnapped them and took them to several nearby hills. Pakistani media quoted a local official as saying that six of the miners died at the scene and another five died on the way to hospital.

Video captured at the scene showed the bodies strewn across the floor of a small house. They all had both hands tied.

In Pakistan, a country with a Sunni Muslim majority, members of the Hazara community are often targeted by extremists. The protesters dumped the bodies onto the main street, demanding justice.

Authorities have promised to arrest those responsible soon.
