A team led by the Birampur Circle Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police arrested a thief named Nazmun Nahar Ripa (30) while stealing a night passenger car leaving Dhaka. During this time, 6 knives used in the robbery were recovered.

The female thief was arrested in Rozina Paribahan near the Nawabganj Matihara bridge on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway at 5 am on Monday (January 4). Nazmun Nahar Ripa is a resident of Dinajpur Ghoraghat Upazila. Her husband’s name is Selim Sheikh. Birampur Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mithun Sarkar confirmed the matter.

Three people were injured in the incident. The injured are Olin, son of Jasim Uddin from Ranishankail upazila, Jewel Rana, son of Abdul Gaffar from Thakurgaon district and Jamal Hossain, son of Joynal Abedin from Nawabganj upazila.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mithun Sarkar said the Rozina Paribahan bus (Dhaka Metro-B 145021) was traveling from Jatrabari in Dhaka to Ranishankail in Thakurgaon on Sunday night. Six thieves got on the bus. On the way from Gobindaganj to Dinajpur, they began robbing passengers by taking them hostage. The thieves picked up the driver and took control of the car. On the way, the car attendant jumped into the Katabari area and informed the police by calling 999.

He said Ghoraghat police pursued the vehicle after receiving the call from the man. Meanwhile, the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Birampur Circle Nawabganj Police Station together with the police blocked the road in Dala Dargah Bazar on the Dinajpur-Gobindganj Highway with tree stumps. Later, the thieves left the car near the Matihara Bridge near the Matihara Bazaar and fled. The member of the bandit group was pursued and arrested.

Later, five sharp knives were recovered from the thief woman and the car. Another bloody knife was recovered from a nearby field. The arrested woman has been taken to the Nawabganj Police Station.
