Sheikh Tozammel Haque Tutul, Awami League nominee, has been elected unopposed as mayor of Tungipara Municipality in Gopalganj in the third phase.
Faizul Islam, a district election official and a returnee, confirmed the information on Sunday (January 3) morning.
He said that Awami League nominee Sheikh Tozammel Haque Tutul was the only candidate who submitted the nomination papers on the last day of submission of nomination papers on Thursday (December 31). He has been elected unopposed as no other candidate has submitted nomination papers for the office of mayor.
In the Tungipara municipality elections, 26 candidates for the position of councilor in 9 districts and 10 candidates for the position of reserved councilor in three districts have submitted their nomination papers.
Apart from the position of mayor, only reserved councilors will vote in this municipality.
