* Depositors upset about keeping money in People’s Leasing * This is a heartbreaking incident: HC

Many people had deposited money with the financial institution People’s Leasing and Financial Services Limited. Many depositors are now upset that they have not been able to recover the money of several hundred million rupees deposited. They live in a desperate situation. No one can get treatment, no one can get children into school. The story of their miserable life with their families was told to the high court judges with tears in their eyes.

After hearing his poignant descriptions, the High Court said it was such a heartbreaking incident. Very painful. Everyone should think about how depositors can get their money back. Justice Md. A High Court divisional court composed of Nazrul Islam Talukder and Judge Ahmed Sohail made the statements on Sunday (January 3). At the same time, four depositors have been asked to file affidavits in court.

Prashant Kumar Haldar is involved in looting Rs 3,500 crore from various financial institutions, including People’s Leasing. Who is known as PK Haldar. He is currently based in Canada. There he opened the company. The ACC has received information in this regard through the corresponding authorities. ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan presented this information to the High Court yesterday. He said a red alert against PK Haldar will be issued soon through Interpol. Interpol is already in the process of sending a copy of the arrest warrant issued against him by a court in Bangladesh through the Ministry of the Interior.

Depositors are now skeptical about getting their money back at People’s Leasing. They go to different places, including Bangladesh Bank, to get their money back. But the depositors told the High Court that they could not hear any guarantees from the central bank. The four depositors, who were practically involved in the hearing of the PK Haldar-related case yesterday, presented their statements as victims in High Court. One of them is Nasheed Kamal, daughter of former Chief Justice Mostafa Kamal. He told the court, “5 members of our family and I have deposited money with People’s Leasing.” Of this, my uncle Mostafa Zaman Abbasi has kept three crore rupees. With the approval of the Bank of Bangladesh, we have kept the money there in good faith. We are the citizens of this country. Who are we going to! Although they contacted the central bank, they said they knew nothing.

Samia bint Mahbub was left with a crore of rupees. Both husband and wife are now unemployed. Samia suffers from cancer. In this situation, he presented the description of living in a desperate situation in the Superior Court. With tears in her eyes, Samia said that she had been unemployed for two years after she was diagnosed with cancer. During the Coronation period, my husband lost his job. There is no way of income. As a result, we live with two children. Lack of money makes treatment difficult. I can’t admit them to school. I haven’t even been able to put fish and meat in my two children’s mouths for a year. What could be more difficult than being a mother? If we have this situation after depositing money in a financial institution registered with the central bank, where will the depositors go? How many of you have dreamed of your children and we are struggling to survive! Save us, arrange a refund.

The freedom fighter Shawkatur Rahman said with tears in his eyes: “I kept the money here to survive well.” I liberated this country at the risk of my life, but not to be deceived. Now I am living a miserable life without receiving the deposited money.

Accountant at Khaled Mansoor Trust. Tariqul Islam said that the trust started life in 2006. Ten million rupees in the name of trust in Jamuna and UCBL Bank were taken to People’s Leasing. This is done in the hope of getting more dividends. Because we work for disadvantaged sectors of society. That is why that decision was made. But now the income stream for the trust is closed. When the money is returned, it will be possible to carry out all the activities without problems again.

In court, the ACC lawyer said he was grateful to the court for hearing depositor statements. “We will hear anyone’s statement throughout the day,” the court said. We do not lack patience. ACC’s lawyer said it would take 3/4 months to complete the ongoing investigation against PK Haldar. The investigating officer informed me. Deputy Attorney General AKM Aminuddin Manik said the entire process of submitting documents to Interpol against PK Haldar was underway. They will soon reach interested agencies.

The High Court wanted to know what steps the ACC has taken to return PK Haldar to the country. On the day of the presentation of the progress report of the case, the depositors presented their declaration in the Superior Court with the cooperation of the ACC.
