At least 70 civilians have been killed in militant attacks in two villages along the border with Niger.
Reuters quoted security officials as saying on Sunday (January 3).
An activist, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that at least 49 people were killed and 18 wounded in an attack in Chambangu village on Saturday (January 2).
On the other hand, on condition of anonymity, a senior Niger Interior Ministry official said that some 30 people were killed in the attack on Jarumdar village.
The government has yet to comment on the attack.
Al Qaeda and Islamic State (IS) militants often carry out attacks in Niger, a West African country. Thousands of people have been killed in militant attacks in the western part of the country, on the border with Mali and Burkina Faso, and on the southeastern border of Nigeria.
