Husband is BNP’s mayoral candidate, rival wife

In the third phase, his wife Fauzia Khanam has become the rival of BNP candidate Matiar Rahman Matin for the post of mayor in the Shibganj municipality elections in Bogra. On the last day of submission of the nomination papers, December 31, they both sent their nomination papers to the returning Officer.
The news that the wife of the BNP-nominated candidate has become her husband’s rival is causing a firestorm of discussion in this constituency. Meanwhile, the mayor’s supporters claim that this has happened for strategic reasons. On Saturday night, Deputy Officer Anisur Rahman confirmed to the Daily Manabzamin that the nomination of mayoral candidate Matiar Rahman Matin and his wife Fauzia Khanam had been submitted. Despite repeated attempts to contact mayoral candidate Matiar Rahman Matin via his mobile phone, his statement could not be obtained.

In this regard, Saikat, brother of former Chhatra Dal leader and mayoral candidate Matiar Rahman Matin, said that Fauzia Khanam has been a candidate for strategic reasons.

However, a reliable source from the Upazila BNP says that if for some reason the candidacy of BNP candidate Matiar Rahman Matin is canceled, his wife Fauzia Khanam will compete at the polls.
Meanwhile, Abdul Goffar, Thana Sramik Dal’s secretary general, has become the BNP’s rebel candidate for mayor in this municipal election. Also, the Awami League candidate against the current mayor and Awami League district member Touhidur Rahman Manik has become the candidate of engineer Abdul Mannan Sheikh, organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League.
