Saif lost to Mohammedan in a dramatic tiebreaker

Saif Sporting Club has reached the semifinals of the Football Federation Cup. Saif advanced to the semi-finals after beating Mohammedan Sporting Club 6-7 in a tiebreaker in the impressive second quarter-final on Saturday (December 2).

The match ended with a 2-2 draw in extra time. When the game ended in a draw, Saif lost to Mohammedan 6-7 in a sudden tiebreaker.

Saif Sporting’s Ikechuku Kenneth, Shahedul Alam Shahed, John Okoli and Emanuel Ariachuku scored on the first five shots of the tiebreaker. Yassin Arafat’s fourth shot was blocked by a crossbar. On the other hand, Mohammedan’s Suleiman Diabate, Uru Nagata, Habibur Rahman Sohag and Mohammad Mithu scored goals. Aminur Rahman Sajib missed shot number two.

Mohammedan’s Kaulidiyati, Amir Hakim Bappi, scored on three shots in Sudden Death. Atikuzzaman failed to score. On the other hand, after Saif’s Rahim Uddin and Rahmat Mia scored, Saif was overjoyed to win the penalty shot from Uzbekistan midfielder Sirojuddin Ravmatullah.

Earlier, Mohammedan went to the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the first minute of the match. Farhad Monar’s shot hit Saif’s defender and was blocked. Atiquzzaman then received the ball via a header from a corner kick from Habibur Rahman Sohag to Burkina Faso coach Kaulidiati.

However, Saif didn’t take the time to return to equality. The team tied in the seventh minute. Nigerian defender Emanuel equalized for Saif with a header from the corner by Faisal Ahmed Fahim.

Then Saif took the lead against Mohammedan. Saif’s Nigerian striker, Ikechuku Kenneth, scored a great goal in the 13th minute by dodging three defenders. Saif missed the opportunity to increase the lead in the 19th minute. Midfielder John Okoli was unable to score despite the goalkeeper being left alone.

Mohammedan tied at the end of the first half. In the 43rd minute, Zafar Iqbal’s powerful shot was blocked by Mohammedan goalkeeper Pappu Hossain in exchange for a corner. Shahed Miah’s shot from that corner made it 2-2 by Mali forward Soleiman Diabate’s header.

After the break, Mohammedan goalkeeper Bipu returned Kenneth de Saif’s shot in the 62nd minute. The Nigerian midfielder’s attempt to save Okoli de Saif’s shot in added time was saved by Bipu.

Saif’s Rahim Uddin squandered an easy scoring opportunity in the 109th minute of extra time. He entered area D with the left side of the penalty area and hit the goalkeeper alone but made his weak shot. Bipu cleared the team in exchange for a corner.

In the end, a tiebreaker is needed to determine the fate of the match. Saif defeated Mohammedan in a dramatic victory there. Saif Sporting’s opponent in the semi-final is Chittagong Abahani.
