A parliamentary subcommittee has been formed to study the issue of receiving multiple tenders from the same contractor from the Department of Bridges and Road Transport. The Standing Committee of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has asked the subcommittee to present an investigative report in the next two months.

In addition, two more parliamentary investigation committees under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges have been formed to investigate allegations of irregularities and mismanagement in the bridge department project.

The subcommittee was formed at the eighth committee meeting held in the parliament building on Thursday (December 31). A two-member subcommittee was formed summoning Sheikh Salahuddin, a member of the committee.

Electronic bidding is known to have started in June 2011 in various government departments and agencies to ensure transparency, efficiency and free competition in public procurement. Stakeholders feel that the government objective is not being implemented due to deficiencies in public procurement laws and regulations. There are reports that some contractors are finding work in the legal arena of electronic tendering. As a result, there was no transparency in the government’s development work and no corruption.

According to sources, the meeting canceled the previous parliamentary subcommittee on the collection of tolls on the Dhaleshwari bridge. Instead, another subcommittee was formed to investigate allegations of irregularities and corruption in the collection of tolls on all bridges in the country. The two-member subcommittee was formed by convening committee member Enamul Haque. The committee is encouraged to present an investigative report on the matter within the next three months.

On the other hand, a two-member parliamentary subcommittee was formed summoning Rezwan Ahmed Tawfiq, a committee member, to present a report on the leasing of the tourist complex located in the Bangabandhu bridge area, Anand park, the picnic spot and garden (agriculture), land management and other infrastructure. It’s done. It is recommended that the committee investigate and report within the next two months.

The meeting was informed that even after removing 755 circuit breakers from the country’s roads, there are now 1,017 circuit breakers. There are these speed switches in 10 areas of the country. The highest speed breaker is in the Dhaka area. Even after removing 16 speed switches from this zone, there are still 16 left.

Chairman of the Committee. In addition to Ekabbar Hossain, the committee members were the Minister of Road Transportation and Bridges Obaidul Quader (virtually), Enamul Haque, Md.
