BNP central leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi testified on behalf of former BNP MP Habibul Islam Habib in the 2002 attack on the convoy of current prime minister and former opposition leader Sheikh Hasina.

Prosecutors questioned him when he testified in Satkhira’s chief judicial magistrate Humayun Kabir’s court on Thursday. The Chief Judicial Magistrate recorded the statements of both parties in the crowded court.

BNP Deputy Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told Safai Sakshi that Habibul Islam Habib, accused in the case on August 30, 2002, was present as a special guest at a meeting of the Swachchasebak Dal in Dhaka on the day of the incident. He was not in Satkhira that day.

“I have witnessed the cleaning,” he said. Habib is innocent. Because he was not in Satkhira that day.

“We hope to do justice,” he added.

On behalf of the government, Satkhira PP Abdul Latif said: “We have questioned Safavi witness, Rizvi.” The case is scheduled for January 8.

It is worth mentioning that on August 30, 2002, the then Leader of the Opposition, Sheikh Hasina, was attacked with her convoy on the way to Magura via Kalaroa after seeing Mahfuza, a rape victim, wife of a freedom fighter in Kalaroa. Although 26 people were charged in the first phase of the case, after a new investigation, the police issued new charge sheets against 50 defendants, including former BNP Habibul MP ​​Islam Habib. After taking the testimony of 20 people in this case, some of them have been taken as witnesses.
