Two journalists have been beaten by criminals while collecting news about irregularities and corruption of the Asrayan-2 Project in Bogra. At that moment, their camera and mobile phone were taken away. Upon receiving the news, the police rescued the two injured journalists and admitted them to hospital. The incident took place in the Dashtika village of Bogra Sadar upazila on Wednesday noon.

The injured are Majedur Rahman Majed, Bogra correspondent for Samay Television, and Bangladesh correspondent Joypurhat Pratidin and his cameraman Rabiul Islam.

Journalist Majedur Rahman, who is receiving treatment at the hospital, said that he went with Rabiul to collect news about the Asrayan project in Dashtika village. Arriving at the scene, Lal Mia, a local UP member, and his associates, led by Labor League leader Johnny, attacked them while filming substandard jobs. At that moment, they smashed the camera and snatched it and beat the two with a wooden stick. Later the police came to rescue them.

According to the locals, the journalists went to see the work and asked the villagers how the work was going, after asking some questions, some young people came and attacked and beat them.

Bogra Sadar Upazila Nirbahi (UN) official Azizur Rahman said house construction is underway in the Dashtika village of Bogra Sadar under the Homeless and Landless Shelter Project on the occasion of the Mujib centenary. The journalists were attacked when they were going to cover the news.

UNO Azizur Rahman added that nothing was known about the attackers. However, local UP member Lal Mia told her that the two journalists who were attacked were vandalizing a house under construction at the Asrayan project with others. However, after investigating the matter, action will be taken against the actual cause and those involved in the incident.

Bogra Sadar OC Humayun Kabir Police Station said two journalists were rescued injured. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
