The objective was to buy 2 lakh tons of rice at 28 Tk / kg, 6 tons of boiled rice at 38 Tk / kg and 50,000 tons of atap rice at 38 Tk / kg in the domestic market. However, most of the rice mill owners had previously reported that they would not be able to supply rice without paying Rs 41 per kg. A handful of rice mill owners are delivering rice to government warehouses.
According to the Ministry of Food, government stocks of rice are declining rapidly. There were 5 lakh 36 thousand tons of rice in the government warehouse on Tuesday. At the same time, last year it was 10 lakh 7 thousand tons.
After the import announcement, the price of paddy rice decreased, but the market price of rice was not affected. According to the Bangladesh Trade Corporation (TCB), secondary rice was sold at 48-50 taka per kg, medium rice at 53-60 taka per kg and fine rice at 60-6 taka per kg yesterday in Dhaka. TCB says that prices for medium and fine rice have risen slightly in the last two days.
