Many farmers have planted onions in hopes of getting better prices.

Prices have started to fall in the market. However, the onion has not yet fully hit the market. According to the farmers, it will take another week to bring the onion home completely. If the Indian onion arrives at this time, you will not get a good price; Rather, it could be a great loss. Village farmer Pabna Sujanagar Madhupur said. Babul Hossain has planted onions in 5 bighas of land. He said it costs between 18,000 and 20,000 taka per bigha of land, from planting onions to picking them from the ground. If the government does not import onions during the onion harvest season, farmers will get better prices. Farmers will suffer if onions are imported during this time.

Golzar Hossain Lal, a farmer from Chargobindpur village in the same upazila, said that the cost of onion production has increased. Many farmers have planted onions in hopes of getting better prices. Farmers will die if onions are imported from abroad.

Rezaul Karim, a farmer from Durgapur village, said that harvesting of onions has now started and the seedlings are being planted. If you spend a lot of money and plant onions and get low prices, the farmer will get his hands dirty.

Onion importer Omar Farooq said India never stopped or withdrawn its exports in advance. Now many importers have onions stuck in containers. Which are bought at a higher price. Now traders will face losses when the Indian onion arrives. Furthermore, local farmers will also face losses.

As the new onion season begins to emerge in India, the country’s Ministry of Commerce has reviewed its onion export policy and has withdrawn the export ban order. This decision will be effective as of January 1. India imposed a ban on onion exports on September 14 due to rising domestic prices and a shortage of stocks. In this situation, like last year, the government tried to manage the situation by importing onions of different colors and flavors from Myanmar, Pakistan, China, Egypt, Turkey and other countries.

Additionally, the National Revenue Board (NBR) removed all tariffs on onion imports until March 31.
