Maulana Yusuf Madani, Allama Shafi’s eldest son, alleged that he was taken hostage to give a video about his father’s death. He claimed that the video was taken from him by force and intimidation.
At a press conference at the National Press Club on Tuesday, Allama Shafi was tortured and mentally tortured to death by his family and some of the custodial leaders.
In a written statement, Yusuf Madani said: “Junaid Babungari has repeatedly said that the death of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi has become normal. And in support of this, you are presenting my confession given via video message as a great document. However, this confession was forcibly taken from me on September 22 and released a week later.
This proves that this conspiracy has been hatched to deceive the people with the nefarious intention of saving the militants and terrorists according to the previous plan. However, I later said in a video message on social media that I was taken hostage under duress and intimidation.
Shafiputra added: ‘I have said it in clear language, my father’s death was not normal. Even then, at my uncle and nephew’s press conference on behalf of custody in Hathazari Madrasa on December 23, Babungari presented my confession as a great document. And he has threatened to withdraw the case, announcing the program of the movement.
Our question is, if my father’s death is normal, what is the Babungari Gang’s fear in the investigation? According to his claim, he will be found innocent in the investigation. In this case, no one was unnecessarily harassed.
Therefore, if any obstruction is created in the investigation of this case, all responsibility will rest with the Babungari Gang.
Hefazat’s press conference made four demands on the government. The demands are-
1. The judicial investigation should reveal the mystery of the “unnatural death” of Allama Shah Amad Shafi and provide exemplary punishment for those involved.
2. The case presented by his family must be investigated and the real culprits must be identified and arrested immediately.
3. The safety of members of Allama Shafi’s family and his followers must be guaranteed. Those who threaten to drop the case must be identified and legal action taken.
4. Opponents of Ahmed Shafi must be eliminated from all religious and social circles.
Allama Ahmad Shafi died on September 17. Three months later, on December 16, his brother-in-law Mohammad Moin Uddin presented a case in a Chittagong court alleging his murder. Hefazat 37 people were charged.
