His brother and nephew have testified in court against 11 people, including former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha (SK Sinha), in a credit fraud case.
They testified in the court of Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of the Dhaka Special Court of Judge 4 on Monday. The two witnesses are Judge SK Sinha’s brother, Narendra Kumar Sinha, and nephew Shankhajit Sinha. After taking his testimony, the court set January 13 for the next testimony.
In this case, the former chairman of the audit committee of Farmers Bank Limited. Mahbubul Haque Chishti aka Babul Chishti is in jail. Former CEO of AKM Shamim Bank and former SEVP Gazi Salahuddin, First Vice President Swapan Kumar Roy, Vice President Md. Lutful Haque, Tangail resident. Shahjahan and Niranjan Chandra Saha from the same area. The bank’s first vice president, Safiuddin Askari, Tangail resident Ranjit Chandra Saha, and his wife Santri Roy are also on the run.
According to judicial sources, the trial began on August 13 with the formation of charges against 11 defendants, including SK Sinha. The case was filed on July 10 last year on charges of abuse of power, fraud and fraudulent transfer of SK Sinha to a private bank through a Tk 4 crore money order on behalf of a loan from Farmers Bank.
Eleven people, including SK Sinha, were charged in the case. Following the investigation, the ACC director said on December 9. Benazir Ahmed filed the charge sheet in court.
According to the charge sheet in the case, after withdrawing Tk 4 crore from the bank on behalf of a bogus loan, the criminal proceeds were abnormally embezzled from the personal account via cash, check or money order. The defendants were involved in smuggling or attempting to smuggle the money through their own possession and concealment of its illegal nature, source, location.
